Cat 'A'

For those who don't understand what Cat 'A' means here's a run-down:

When you come into prison everybody is put on a category A, B, C, D or E, ‘A’ being the highest risk. The sort of people put on Cat 'A' are terrorists, serial killers, and very serious criminals such as spies, armed robbers, drug barons, gangsters, hitmen, etc.

Note from Mal

The basic freedoms of a prisoner depend on which category they are placed in and that, in turn, is decided according to the likelihood of escape and security risk.

Cat A: prisoners whose escape would be highly dangerous
Cat B: prisoners who don’t need extreme security but for whom escape must
be difficult
Cat C: prisoners not trusted in open conditions but without the ability to escape
Cat D: prisoners trusted to serve their sentences in open conditions

Category A prisoners have the greatest restrictions placed upon them and their visitors will be vetted by the police. They are entitled to an annual review of their categorisation and they can get legal help for this.

The idea of prison is to progress and rehabilitate. If you’re a lifer you have to be de-categorised, otherwise how can you ever be freed? You can't! How can you be freed on parole if you are Cat 'A'? You can't! If you're serving a fixed sentence, then you will be released on your date of release, whether you are Cat 'A' or whatever. I was actually released on Cat 'A' myself some years back. By being released on Cat 'A' you are sure to be under police surveillance.

Now the question is: why is Charlie Bronson still on Cat 'A'? How can it be justified? Who is keeping him on it? And for what reason?

It's simple: "Get back time - Let's fuck with Bronson, as he fucked the system."

Believe me there is no other reason to keep me on Cat 'A'. My crimes outside cannot warrant Cat 'A'. If they did then the whole system would be Cat 'A'; every robber coming in would be Cat 'A' ... the system could not cope with so many! I am Cat 'A' for my behaviour inside at a time I deserved to be Cat 'A', as I was a threat to the system. So why keep me Cat 'A' when I have been trouble free for five years? It simply does not make sense! Would it not be in everybody's best interest to de-categorise me so I can move on through the system?

Here is how pathetic and hypocritical the system is: All of the I R A were Cat 'A', all were a great danger to the public. The Government did deals with terrorists ... the same scumbags who blew us up! Then they released them all!! They are back on our streets, so all the sudden all those Cat 'A's were no longer dangerous! It will be the same with the London Bombers 5 or 10 years from now. The government will do deals with that scum and they will be let out in exactly the same way as the I R A! That's how this evil system works: gutless, spineless officials!

I'm now a political prisoner. My name alone is branded. I'm not allowed to move on. I can't progress. No matter what I say, what I do, they will not allow me progress. I've caused them too much trouble. You can't rip-off nine of prison roofs and be allowed to forget it. You can't take 11 hostages and be seen to progress. They are making an example of me: "Look at Bronson. Do what he did in and you'll die in prison!" That's how dangerous it's become now. They are keeping me caged, not allowing me to move on, simply because of my past. I am now a hostage of my past; only a good human rights lawyer can keep me out ... a lawyer not afraid to fight, because it's now obvious to a peanut that its victimisation.

They can do what they want, when they want, how they want, any time they want to. All because of my past!

They can let out terrorists, they can free killers who kill again, they can parole paedophiles who shag your kids. Come on! Wake up!

What danger or threat am I to society? I am anti-crime, anti-drugs, anti-violence. I could actually help a lot of kids to stay out of jail. All the system is doing to me is denying me my life. They are killing me slowly. My dreams are being sucked away. I'm the old man with no sky. If this shit continues I can see me not even bothering to; it will push my buttons and start me off all over again fighting the system I despise.

I can't live a lie. I do hate it. It's a system I spit on as it's so false! It's so senseless and negative.

Even now I enjoy writing, art and poetry, they still would not encourage it. It's as if it they are jealous of it. They would sooner see a man on his knees or in a zombie state. The screws all say I've changed. Some actually say it's wrong in how I'm not allowed to move on. They're only doing a job; they have to take orders to lock me up, but every single one of them knows I deserve better.

Look at this latest shit here: cons allowed bra and panties and condoms! How sick can it get? The system is encouraging perversion. This jail is 90 per cent sex cases. The scum that rape your kids and women then come inside and to shag each other's arses. Now see why I despise the system ... and every decent screw feels the same! 'Cos it's sick! And you have all the nambi pamby probation and psychologist pratts backing it.

This is why Charlie Bronson is in a cage and on Cat 'A', 'cos I can't accept such things! I don't want it in my life! Outside, I could walk out of the door, away from anything I don't like. In prison it's in my face ... no escape! My door opens out to it. It's another world. They want us all brainwashed.

Me? I'd prefer to be on Devil's Island or Alcatraz. Serve my time. Do it hard and eventually be freed. I don't want all this psychological shit. I make no excuses for my past. I was what I was; I did what I did; I deserved to be punished. I blame nobody but myself. When is the penal system going to accept its mistakes and realise that it's time to move on. Time has changed, so have I.
