Notorious lifer Bronson attacks guards in gym at Yorkshire jail
Yorkshire Post
by Mark Duell
15th November 2010
BRITAIN'S most notorious prisoner has been involved in an
attack at the high-security West Yorkshire prison dubbed
"Monster Mansion".
Charles Bronson attacked guards in the gym of Wakefield
Prison last Friday at 1:20pm, and staff had to wait for
reinforcements before they could take any action against
him.
Various reports suggested he took on 12 wardens and injured
at least four in the rampage but the Prison Service has
denied that any staff were hurt.
A Prison Service spokesman said: "At 1:20pm on 12 November a
prisoner was involved in a minor incident in the gym
association area at Wakefield prison. Staff intervened at
4:37pm and the incident was resolved at 4:40pm. No injuries
were sustained."
Bronson, who was originally jailed for armed robbery in
1974, was given a life sentence after taking an art teacher
hostage for 44 hours during a Hull Prison siege in 1999.
Originally from Luton, he is certified insane and has been
held at all three of Britain's special hospitals.

Naked Charles Bronson covered himself in butter in latest jail rage
Daily
Mirror
by Jeremy Armstrong
15th November 2010
Crackpot Charles Bronson covered himself in butter while
naked and took on 12 prison warders in his latest jail rage.
The 57-year-old flipped after growing more and more furious
over his latest failed bid to be freed.
He took on six warders, then another six in a specialist
restraint team who rushed to help before finally being
dragged back to solitary.
At least four officers were injured in the rampage on the
notorious F-wing at Wakefield jail, West Yorks.
An insider said: "He was naked and covered himself in butter
so staff trying to restrain him could not take him down. He
assaulted four before they sent in six members of the
control and restraint team to get him.
"They finally managed to control him and he was taken back
into solitary confinement.
"Charlie has not been in the news for a while and his failed
appeal last year hit him hard. He was moved to Long Lartin
and thought he was going to get out.
"Then they had to take him back to the highest security at
Wakefield.
"He knows this is it for the rest of his days, and he is
desperate."
Lifer Bronson, first jailed for armed robbery in 1969, is
likely to be in solitary indefinitely. He has spent the vast
majority of his 36 years behind bars alone.
Bronson was last locked up in 1974 for another armed raid.
He has taken a string of hostages in 10 sieges, attacked at
least 20 officers and caused £500,000 damage in rooftop
protests.
He got life for kidnapping prison teacher Phil Danielson at
Hull jail in 1999.
His appeal against that sentence failed last year. A film,
Bronson, has been released based on his life.
His art work, including dark depictions of jail life, has
won awards, and can earn £2,500 a canvas.
The Prison Service said of Friday's rampage: "A prisoner was
involved in a minor incident in the gym area."

Britain's 'most dangerous prisoner' injures four guards after smearing himself in butter and launching attack
Daily
Mail
by Dialy Mail Reporter
15th November 2010
Britain's 'most dangerous prisoner' Charles Bronson was in
solitary confinement today after a ferocious attack on
guards which left four hurt.
Bronson, who has spent nearly all of the past 36 years in
jail for a string of violent crimes, was said to have
smeared his naked body with butter to prevent prison staff
tackling him.
He then fought up to 12 warders in the gym area of Wakefield
Prison before he was finally subdued by a team of specialist
guards.
A prison source told the Daily Mirror: 'He was naked and
covered himself in butter so staff trying to restrain him
could not take him down.
'He assaulted four before they sent in six members of the
control and restraint team in to get him.'
Bronson, who was originally jailed in 1974 for armed
robbery, has been involved in more than a dozen hostage
incidents and violent assaults.
His record has led to a life term being added to his
original sentence and being dubbed 'Britain's most dangerous
prisoner'.
In one incident in 1999 that led to his life term, he
kidnapped prison teacher Phil Danielson at Hull Prison and
held him hostage for 40 hours while making various demands.
Born Michael Gordon Peterson in Luton, Bedfordshire, he
changed his name to Charles Bronson in 1987 in homage to the
star of the 'Death Wish' series of films.
On occasions he has staged rooftop protests and has been
forced to spend much of his prison life in solitary
confinement because of his appalling behaviour behind bars.
His actions in prison include wounding with intent, criminal
damage, grievous bodily harm, false imprisonment, blackmail
and making threats to kill.
He is currently being held as a Category A prisoner and
follows a supreme fitness regime which can still see him
complete more than 172 press ups in a minute.
A film about his life - Bronson - was released last year
starring Tom Hardy and the prisoner has written a number of
books including Solitary Fitness, about how to stay fit and
'always ready for any situation'.
Wakefield Prison is sometimes referred to Monster Mansion
because of the notoriety of some of its inmates which
include Roy Whiting who murdered Sarah Payne and police
killer David Bieber.
A Prison Service spokesman said of Friday's incident: 'A
prisoner was involved in a minor incident in the gym area.'
NOTE FROM MAL: The Mail pulled the
above story in the afternoon, but not before I had collected
the following disgraceful "typical Mail reader"
comments:
I know a bit of Tai Chi and Kung Fu and would fancy my
chances against him ... he would be quickly begging for
mercy, butter or no butter.
kerry livermore, London, England, 15/11/2010 11:15
Seriously just bring in captial punishment and kill the
bugger
Charlie Eamond, Tumbridge wells, Kent, 15/11/2010

6 feet of rope would have saved the taxpayer untold
thousands (millions?) where this wretch is concerned.
GARY, STOKE, 15/11/2010 12:54
good grief, what is wrong with a club and a good wack over
the head, that would stop him. Or I am sure there are fire
hydrants that will stop him. We are becoming too soft.
loris, milan, 15/11/2010 12:52
if he is britains most dangerous prisoner then surely he
should be executed for his crimes before he does anything
else.
mina, England, 15/11/2010 12:50
The kindest thing to do in situations like this is to put
him to sleep. Kinder for the prison guards and the taxpayer,
anyway.
Anne,, sinking in the EU, 15/11/2010 12:36
Why doesn`t one prison guard just walk in and `taser` him.
That would stop him in his tracks!!
In fact, why isn`t he `tasered` every week, just to show him
who`s boss?
Dave Pollard, Alicante, Spain, 15/11/2010
why not end this drain on my taxes
PHIL, ANCHORSHOLME,LANCASHIRE,
What a great advert he is for the death sentence.
JOHN H, Calahonda Spain, 15/11/2010 12:25
Why don't they issue guards with tasers, or my preferred
choice, a shotgun?
Steve M,, Dulwich, not the posh part! SE
If he was a dog the vet would put him down!!!!
bob, beds, 15/11/2010 11:47
Why dont they just pop a bullet between his eyes?? it would
save the taxpayers thousands.
- Ivor, Australia, 15/11/2010 11:43
Butter?.......Bullet......End of problem.
David Hicks, Ashford, AL USA, 15/11/2010
Oh I wish we could save this country a fortune by putting
this animal and many others like him down, he could never be
reintergrated into society and is a waste of time and money.
jane, guildford, 15/11/2010 11:15
My solution to this drain on the taxpayer, involves a noose
or a small round piece of lead.
Percy, london uk, 15/11/2010 11:08
Who are these Keyboard Vigilantes
who want to EXECUTE Charlie, who has never committed murder,
rape or anything like? My comment, which never made the page
of course, was:
Seems like your readers are a lot more violent minded
than Charlie. Shoot/Hang him? Taser him each week to show
him who's boss?
Charlie has had very few incidents of violence in the past
ten years (almost the length of time I have known him.) This
incident is the result of a year's disgraceful goading by
the prison authorities: starved in HMP Long Lartin, a prison
dog set on him in Woodhill, countless letters to him stopped
for ridiculous reasons, many of his regular visitors banned,
his own brother banned from visiting him because he dared to
talk to the press, many friends (ordinary people) refused
the right to visit him (12 in the past two months!),
Charlie has NEVER presented any threat or danger to the
public. He is far more of a threat to the prison system
which holds and goads him. Oh, and I have never met a PO in
Wakefield who doesn't like him.
