JAIL hardman Charles Bronson has punched the governor of a top security nick where he is serving life.

Prison boss Nigel Smith was hit immediately after entering the thug's cell.

Mr Smith was sent reeling by the blow to his chin but stayed on his feet.

A jail source said: "Charlie is always looking for trouble because he wants to remain in solitary and doesn't want to go on an open wing."

The attack happened in the close supervision unit at Woodhill jail, Bucks. Armed robber Bronson, 57, has been in solitary confinement for more than 30 years because of his violent behaviour.

The Prison Service told The Sun last night: "The member of staff received minor injuries. The prisoner will be subject to disciplinary procedures."

Note from Mal: Hmmm ... they seem not to be interested in WHY he struck the governor!
